Hélène painted a very personal version of Frida's self portrait. That look! Fantastic. I left the white bottom in because I liked the look of the woman standing behind a fence - here's the one without - you choose:
The latest Aquarellista challenge was to paint your own personal version of a famous painting, Frida Kahlo's 'self portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird' . Great to see those completely different interpretations, the humor and the inspirational strength of Frida Kahlo!
Brenda will finish her subtle interpretation coming Tuesday. She uses the long neck as special feature and she has given the portrait a less tormented and more understanding look
Mainly inspired by the eyebrows, this painting by Liz. They repeat in the cat's tails . And note the mask, it doesn't get more contemporary and symbolic than this!...
Jutta personalized the inspiration toward a surrealistic portrait with lots of symbols, like the cat's tail as a necklace instead of thorns and an owl - and a wonderful watercolour painting in the background
Judith used her free-flowing technique on the portraits and to her happy surprise, it worked out! The portrait above is unfinished, yet very promising, the one below is astonishing! Very expressive, and makes you want to see more!!
This is an amazing version created by Sonya, who wants to get out of her 'precise' comfort zone. And I think it is already happening. The mosaic behind Frida is such a wonderful, moving background, it really adds depth. Big compliment!
Marie is a brand new aquarellista in the Opio group on Thursday. She has a tiny bit of try-out experience and after painting the spheres (see below) she did this. I am impressed! Not perfect, but full of character and do I see 'loose' brush strokes? Well done!
Randi's sense of humour couldn't help itself and created a Super Mario caricature. With excellent compositional elements in the repeating round shapes of the eyebrows, the eyes, the cat, the hair and the hummingbird
Michele sent in her version from Bretagne. She is going to work on other interpretations, but this one she calls 'Naif'. I adore it, and actually it is very recognizable! If more comes our way you will see that next week.
In the meantime...
After finishing her Frida portrait, Hélène quickly painted another striped portrait and it is stunning!!
New Aquarellista always means, a new version of the spheres! This one is created by Marie and it looks great!
