Pikes and other Fantastic Fish - in watercolours

Sonya is back from Grenoble and she has painted a fantastic pike (that I see as a Mrs Pike) with a beautiful pattern - and she managed to make her look somewhat friendly. Beautiful light and fabulous soft background. Well done and great to see such good work, after quite some weeks of absence!

Fantastic Fish (and where to find them) or to be precise, 'Pikes' was last weeks' theme. And the Aquarellistas either took that subject or were inspired by it, and in all cases they came up with wonderful paintings and great ideas! Have a look and enjoy!

Rosemarie painted a Pike, with such cute orange fins, on its way up. The water is of a beautiful blue, the light is amazing, the pattern original and I especially love that tail! it reflects the light and makes the dull part of the water suddenly interesting.

The Pike that Brenda painted (on beautiful paper, you can still see the 'bords frangés' or fringed edges on the top) is so gorgeous - and so is the background. It has a wonderful contrast that makes it very realistic-looking.

Barbara really picked up on the subject and created her expressions in 2 very different versions of a perch! Love them both - and the show off perch above is funny, while the moody one below has so much depth!! Well done
😀

That was it for the actual Fish-subject, but it inspired many to other 'wild life' paintings that I think are versions of the subject

Jutta had a lot of ideas around the Lady with parasol-subject of a couple of weeks ago. The others are below under 'in the meantime' but this frog swims in a pond too. Not in the picture, as is is now sheltering from the rain under a water lily leaf that he can also use for the sun iow - a parasol

Sue  also picked up on the 'wild life' aspect The picture of the dog is her daughter’s King Charles cocker spaniel ‘Ollie ‘! It is her first attempt at a dog portrait and I'd like to comment "...looking good! - very brave with the blue tone, and of course loose style painting much appreciated!"Love the nostrils too. Below a marvellous (bumble-)bee on a flower. Too beautiful!! That background also.

In the meantime...

Amelia - Sonya's beautiful 7 year-old has painted too and she created this wonderful watercolour of a cherry-blossom-tree in the wind. I am so enthusiastic about this! It is so open and so brave. And the strong wind is everywhere.

Judith went on experimenting and what I love about the two paintings above is that they don't make you think, there is no need to explain them, they just 'are' and that has a very calming effect.
And she eagerly continued trying stuff out - different colour schemes, and with a mathematical precision. Very interesting! To be continued of course 😊

Latest new Aquarellista is Eva from Sweden and this is one of her first tries. No pressure - but that is promising isn't it?! That light above the snowy mountains, and the bare tree in front, that gives the composition a perspective - awesome! Looking forward to seeing more...

These amazing riding boots are painted by Randi. They are her husbands' and will soon be taken over by her son. They are strong and beautiful and the watercolour gives them the attention and the honour they deserve. Super well done Randi!

More inspiration on the 'parasol/umbrella' theme by Jutta. She symbolises p
rotection, intimate moments. and her 'Lady with a parasol' is marvellous, with a really strong wind, fantastic colours and a lovely, white face. And I think I see the frog from above instead of the boy - so humour added as well! It is beautiful, and complete...

Marie has returned from Sweden, where she did not paint - and decided to do a couple of exercises out of our book to 'get' it again. She started with the washing exercise and I think this is the best ever!! For those who do not know, after painting and washing, you are supposed to create volume and that's what she did, so convincing!!
