Art Nouveau Vases in Watercolours

Last session the aquarellistas painted vases, from famous french Art Nouveau Glass Artist Emile Gallé. We didn't have a still life (a cheap one costs 25.000€ 😛) So we used pictures. Difficult enough, because even the simple ones are so intricate, detailed, subtle - and of course symmetrical and transparent. To quote Michèle: "I have always loved him, but trying to paint his work without damaging it too much, showed me all the nuances and the delicacy of his work.
I did my best ….  And it was a real pleasure" . A real challenge, yet they all did it! and the results, even the WIPS are pretty impressive, have a look for yourself:

Thecla with a design inspired by Gallé. It would look great on a vase!!

And then as always lots of other projects:

Thecla practised 'volume' in another way, inspiring next week's subject 'Optical Illusions'. And apart from that, it is also very well done!

Jutta's pebbles are finished. They look very real and so spontaneous. She used splashes of coloured paint as well as tiny dots of masking to suggest sand. (SHe had to colour the white of the masking after it came off - just too white! It is now perfect!

Anna Karin works thoroughly on her pebbles. It is very balanced, even unfinished, I guess that has to do with the fact that she is
using only 3 colours. Absolutely wonderful!

Work in progress by Sue, next week hopefully the finished version with shadows and a dark background added, but it is already wonderful, so 'loose' and spontaneous! Lov'it.

Anne painted the layers exercise, 'comme il faut'! The sea is pretty choppy, there are clouds and the people living in the city have switched on the lights.... Very atmospheric!

Michel's version of the 'Layers' exercise - he replaced the sea with sand  and yet again it looks fantastic.

Sandra has started a project in honour of the village where she lives. She is going to paint all worthwhile doors; I love them - with a slight preference for the top one because it has face...

Meet the Beautiful Bully, painted by Thelma. It was a commission, the new owners will be delighted I am sure. It is well painted, the fur looks fluffy and real - but also his friendly and loyal character are very very well expressed. After this one: a kitten! Can't wait...

And then there's Judith's serious and open research in baby-painting. I do not recommend painting baby's and toddlers, it is so difficult, what with proportions, those tiny noses and their faces change per day (if not per hour). But Judith persevered and she did a good job! I am proud.
😋 and just to prove how good she is, here's the latest:
