Natural faces in watercolours (and more)

During our last Aquarellista-get together we painted portraits, with only a short introduction, just as a spontaneous exercise. Erica and Gail, very new participants bravely took part and surprised everyone! Big group again and I was very proud of all - not to take credits, just proud to see them all create such wonderful things! Have a look and enjoy:

This half-portrait is so delicate and very well painted, by Charlie

Worj In Progress by Martine/ Right next to this woman, her fabulous daughter, will be her grandson - a double portrait, wow!

Glenda, the aquarellista who requested 'portrait' as a subject; painted this wonderful portrait, adding a lot of herself in it, and that is how it should be, there are always 2 people in a painted portrait, the subject and the painter... Well done!

This beautiful Asian girl was painted by Laura , who worked more bold than usual on the skin colour, which gives this portrait a spontaneous look. She will tweak the eyes a bit next time, and add some darks and shine to the hair - in the same spontaneous way!

Portraits are very much Sandra's thing she created a whole series of impressionist Sandra-style portraits of famous creative people, and here is the start of the next one, Kurt Cobain. Looking forward to the next stages!

Corinne did research on how to paint strongly curled hair -- and decided that the best way is to use a not-too-wet brush and just move it with small gestures. As you can see it is completely convincing. After that she embarked on a next one concentrating on the features. My brain fills in the rest of the face, yours too?

Anne painted the other half of the face, and did such a good job on the mouth. I love that little mysterious smile

Not finished, no neck yet but Gail went wild on this one and I love it! If you know that she didn't paint since kindergarten, this is actually very very clever and seeing how she approached itI am very confident that she will become one of our 'originals'

Erica also has not painted for a very long time. This face is so not finished but there is a lot of very good stuff in the eyes, in the skin colour and in the lips. Just sayin'. Ready for the next step.

Michele chose this portrait because it reminds her of a much-loved childhood friend and niece.with the same freckles, green eyes.

Sonya's WIP, with amazing expression and a face ready for some freckles! Beautiful expression.

In the meantime

Thecla felt like more 'psychedelic' expression and I love how she built it up. The lines and the white are very well placed and make the composition very interesting

This awesome birch tree watercolour is created by Sue - it is almost finished and you may remember the previous stage, with the blue tape. She used cling film for the green parts and now added the tree shapes in her typical free, loose style. Fabulous!

Anna Karin is back and as she said, did all her homework! She finished the birch trees and the zebras (Bravo by the way!!) and then, like Roxane also often does, used the leftover paint to create a free and interesting painting, in this case a mysterious seascape (I think
😀)

Zebras and more trees, all Anna Karin but you recognised her style I guess

Next to her Kurt Cobain portrait Sandra started a poppy painting - looking very promising!

Judith painted 2 big blue surfaces on XL boards, took them home and did a tiny little bit to this one - and  all of a sudden it becomes a story of snow, lightness, curiosity and fun, great stuff!
