Watercolours, inspired by Madame X

Mme X by John Singer Sargent. It took him around 4 years to paint this fabulous portrait - it caused a row because it was considered too sexy and also because the strong 'en profil' was not done in the 19th century... He changed the left shoulder strap, which was hanging down at first. And in the end got the appreciation he deserved..

In last week's session we took a famous painting as inspiration once more - in this case the masterpiece by John Singer Sargent, 'Madame X'. It has an interesting story (google it to know more) and John Singer Sargent has also created fan-tas-tic watercolours. Which are not very famous. The most important feature of this portrait is of course that it is an  'en profil', quite unusual. Her shoulders are naked and she is wearing a gorgeous, lush velvet dress. The Aquarellistas have created their own personal versions! Here they are...

Brenda - the dress is blue velvet and the lady is a blonde
Madame X by Ina, with happy flowers on her dress and matching colourful hair

This amazing painting, inspired on Mme X (her shape, not her expression) is created by Celina. Really wesome painting!

Here is yet another version, a strong one, by Monica. Cool to see how it is quite similar and at the same time utterly different.

Michele titled her painting 'Madame Y' and dressed her in turquoise with the sexy version of the shoulder band

Randi created a determined Mme X - I adore the blue dress, so very velvety!

This is a very original interpretation. Sonya painted it. It is strong and classic. Love it.

In the meantime...

Jutta started with a very thorough drawing of a deer. I am sure that it is going to be a fantastic painting.

Hélène created this amazingly beautiful landscape. Everything is good about it, the colours, the contrast, the silhouettes and the clouds. Chapeau!

Cathie's lovely little worn trainers are done, finished, ready to sign and sell!

This watercolour of her son in law, is created by Sue  to give to him for his birthday, as a card. Super cool work Sue!

and last but not least, a 'Natural Tunnel' by Sonya. Fabulous!
We'll have to make do without her & her work in the summer, she's already abroad and will return in September.
