Blossom in Watercolours

Brenda painted these lovely cherry blossom branches, with an English sunny sky in the background. She specifically mentioned it should be seen from a distance, but rest assured it is lovely too from close by, you don't want to miss those details. Well painted, with feeling!

The challenge of last week was 'paint blossom' - inspired by the time of the year of course and it worked out quite well if I may say so myself, a lot of Aquarellistas sent in their versions and ideas on the subject. I love the results! You check them out for yourself - and in the meantime other great stuff was created as well, you can admire that below the blossom. If you have missed the instruction video, you can find it here

Michèle's blossoms, fabulous and shows that  a subtle subject like this is really something for her! I have no remarks except that I am proud to see how she developed her style to something deep and poetic. I hope we can have an expo some day soon and see this for real.

This is a watercolour by Ingrid, created in Switzerland, where they have sunny days right now. and then sometimes a lot of snow. Both great to paint in. She did a fantastic job, especilly on the tiny stamens and the overall impression is so very much of a cold spring day, I love it!

Rosemarie combined a couple of challenges in this painting, she used her imagination to create an interesting and very 'printemps' watercolour, with super round Easter eggs and blossom, with a composition like Monet's Lady with a parasol. I also love what happens in the sky!

Sue used the big brush and look how cool the light is on those delicate pink leaves of Japanese blossom! The background makes the picture so summery! She was lucky enough to visit Tokyo during their blossom festival a few years agoand painted her interpretation.

A series of 3 by Judith , true to her style and very transparently painted. Of course she had to adapt to the subject, so they develop from a statement, to a super subtle hint of flowers, to an almost-abstract, defined by the negative space (the sky). Hopefully the developments continue, always interesting!

The amazing blossoms by Carol. created with her dabbing technique, full of mystery and with the promise of a good summer.

In the meantime...

Ingrid painted this just for fun -and to catch up with the 'brown' and 'eggs' challenges. She painted her friends Easter cake - which she tells me was delicious, from a receipe by Nigella Lawson. Well done, the chocolate brown is perfect, the eggs almost transparent and very Easter - and most of all,  it looks totally yummy!

This fantastic, simple landscape by Eva. She is still in Sweden, where the snow has gone and the melting ice inspired her and that is visible! Really wonderful atmosphere, so still and pure.

She also painted this green glass bowl on a mirror. If you take a long good look at it becomes better and better, with a good use of the transparency, wonderful reflections and very cleverly done!

Lastly, also by Eva, this lovely, subtle glass egg. It is impressive, how she interprets the challenges and comes up with these original watercolours paintings! I am so looking forward to seeing more.

Hélène's eyes are beginning to heal and she did a monochrome portrait that I am very much impressed by. Is it a coincidence that the eyes are brilliant in this drawing?! Also the expression, superbe!!!

Another impressive painting was created by Judith, this is certainly one that can be interpreted in many ways. I see the photographic radiating effect of a bright light, but it can also be a cross and much more. But whatever it is - it has power!

And we finish with Sue's 'Dreaming of Greece', a reminiscence of the good time - that will return!
